Project description
The PREPAS aims to improve the living conditions and food security of pastoral populations in the Ennedi, Batha and Wadi Fira regions of Chad. It will run for a 12-year period and began its 4-year Phase 1 on 14th April 2014. Phase 2, over 3 years, started in July 2019 until July 2021.
Project goals
The specific objective of the Program, during these three phases, is to strengthen the resilience of pastoral livestock to climatic hazards by securing pastoral mobility, improved access to water, veterinary services and food supplements towards valorisation of livestock products, and the improvement of local sectoral governance.
Services provided
Specifically, the PREPAS enables:
- Securing pastoral mobility and concerted management of natural resources;
- The development of services and support for economic initiatives for the benefit of livestock farmers and the strengthening of their professional organizations;
- Improved access to single health services in pastoral areas far from urban centres through the implementation of a pilot mobile system, and increased access to animal health services in pastoral areas and improved sectoral governance.
