Project description
The study had been implemented within the framework of the Sugar sector support program of Côte d’Ivoire.
The program has two main components:
- Implementation of a stable land ownership framework in order to secure the development of sugarcane production;
- Specific development actions devoted to support small-growers’ sugarcane production that target roads infrastructures development, crop husbandry and a better organization of small-growers’ production.
Services provided
The study was conducted in three phases (documentary, field and final phase) and focused on the following aspects:
- Diagnosis of the current pricing of outgrowers’ sugar cane;
- Design of a mechanism for setting the price of outgrowers’ canes (proposal of mechanisms and pricing key factors);
- Feasibility study for implementing a quality-based payment system;
- Proposals to reorganize sugar cane harvest from outgrowers’ and private producers’ farms;
- Pre-feasibility study for setting harvesting platforms receiving outgrower’s and private producers’ sugar canes.
CA 17 international provided:
- One international Sugar Cane expert, Team Leader,
- One national expert, technician specialist of agro-industrial sugar complexes.
