Project description

CA 17 International’s intervention focused on the mid-term evaluation, to identify recommendations that made the project more efficient, during the remaining year, with regards to its initial objectives and within the framework of the announced withdrawal of the French aid. The evaluation focused on 4 separate themes:

  • Institutional organisation of the project;
  • Project Impacts on pilot sites’ agricultural and local development;
  • Financial management and business efficiency (costs/benefits);
  • Post project strategy with other donors.

Project goals

The main objective of the project was to improve productivity and market access for small producers in four Nigerian states (Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina), through the promotion of appropriate cooperative and service structures, while strengthening national subject matter expertise capacity.

The project comprised four components:

  • Contribution to the strengthening of agricultural producers’ organisations;
  • Promotion of the creation of advisory centres and producer-led services;
  • Improvement and exploitation of knowledge useful to those involved in agricultural development;
  • Project management.

Services provided

  • Preparation phase of the mission in France;

Assessment and Restitution Phase in Nigeria:

  • Organisation of a workshop to gather a representative sample of the partners involved and beneficiaries,
  • Organisation of a meeting to present provisional conclusions and summarise recommendations,
  • Implementation of interviews with other projects in the area to learn about the strategies of other donors.
