Project description

The objectives of this project were to 1) Analyse the institutional and regulatory framework relating to the traceability of animals and animal products and evaluate the identification methods and tools used at a national level, 2) Identify organisational deficiencies and make proposals to improve the architecture of a national system for the traceability of animals and animal products, and 3) Identify needs for institutional capacity building and formulate a twinning project to support the structures involved in the implementation of the traceability system.

Services provided

The Technical Assistance has enabled 1) The evaluation of the existing process of identification, classification and coding of animals and animal products and their identified deficiencies, 2) The drafting of proposals to improve the architecture of a national system for the traceability of animals and animal products, complemented by scenarios for system start-up and expansion, and 3) The identification of institutional support needs of structures involved in the implementation of the traceability system and the development of an institutional twinning project.
