Project description
Specialists from CA 17 International worked with farmers in the project area to help them define their needs and to set up groups able to solve the difficulties of agricultural production. At the institutional level, CA 17 International provided support to the “GUILT” (recently created professional agricultural organisation with the mission of representing the interests of farmers in Kemerovo) to strengthen its capacity to represent the agricultural sector to the public authorities and to provide the necessary services to farmers.
The actions undertaken by CA 17 International were as follows:
- Intervention in the dairy sector to help small producers organize themselves into milk collection centres;
- Support to the meat sector to develop a livestock feed production capacity supported by all meat producers and processors in Kemerovo;
- Setting up a contract between producers and processors: prices paid by processors linked to the quality of production.
Project goals
The objective of the project was to increase the competitiveness of local agri-food production. Deficiencies were identified upstream of the agri-food chain where producers did not have the capacity to organise themselves to produce according to the requirements, in quantity and quality, requested by the processors.
Services provided
The main lines of action were:
- Implementation of pilot actions as a demonstration;
- Support the GUILT as a tool for rural and agricultural development in rural areas in Kemerovo;
- Training of the staff that will advise farmers.
